As of recent years, definitely more than my younger years I have noticed a different type of reaction to people who speak of their New Year’s resolutions. It was once a very positive, embracing and inspirational thing. The entire process of putting together a list full of resolutions and lifestyle changes that one wanted to associate with their fresh start. Now it seems that people are being vilified for wanting to implement positive aspects into their life.
How I see it, we should all aspire to improve by the day and anytime a person sets goals of improvement that is something that we should all both encourage and embrace. Change is not easy at all and one of the things that makes it difficult is the expected responses from other people. And I know what y’all are saying, “who cares what others think,” and in a sense you’re absolutely right but as humans it is in our nature to care what others think. Even so, that is beside the point of this post lol. Why are we so embracing of the BS for the most part but turn the other way when someone states how they want to evolve positively?
We often question can changes be made overnight, as in can changes be made on January 1st and the truth is changes can be made at any time. It all depends on the person and when they are ready to apply changes. If someone picks the new year to start the change then so be it. And when they are ready, we should be there to support.
